I haven’t really set any new year goals or had any resolutions in a long time, but over the past couple of weeks I’ve been thinking about a variety of things to get myself refocused. I keep coming back to what’s worked before — finding three things to focus on with a bigger overarching thought. I keep wanting to make sure that I’m more “present” in many aspects of my life.
I’ve always been a big fan of breaking things out into threes, so here’s my plan:
Being “more” of something often requires “less” of things:
➡️ Less time on my phone.
➡️ Less time worrying about work.
➡️ Less saying “not right now” to things my kids wants to do.
Being intentional:
➡️ Writing or saying what I think rather than internalizing it.
➡️ Finishing my thoughts after a run. Whenever I’ve done that in the past 20+ years, so many other things work themselves out
➡️ Smiling more. Reading “The Dash” book recently has reemphasized how that simple act can make a positive impact.
Create 3 new goals – big or small – every month:
➡️ Write down these goals near the end of each month
➡️ Follow up on those goals when making the new ones.
➡️ If I fail to reach a goal, figure out why.
So what’s ahead for January? That will be another post soon!
