August was … well … not what I wanted it to be. This comes after July had some letdowns. They weren’t failures by any means, but I need to push pause on setting three monthly goals for September.
I’m setting goals just because it’s something I set out to do back in January. I want to get back to doing that in the final quarter of the year, but this month I want to focus on my year-long plan for the Blue Ridge Half Marathon and make some adjustments.
Phase 3 Recap: Strong Lifts, Rough Runs
July and August were “Phase 3” with building a base and maintaining my weight-training. Getting to the gym and hitting the weights has been fine.
Running though? Ugh. I’d rather bike … which isn’t really a bad thing, it’s just not the thing I was hoping to do.
A Fall Race Still on the Books: Virginia 10 Miler
Not all is lost though. This month I still plan to run in the Virginia 10 Miler at the end of the month.
I’m certainly hoping that the biking I’ve done will help me at least finish this race without feeling miserable.
Rethinking Phase 4 (and What’s Next)
“Phase 4” was actually going to be designed to do a race in October, but I’ve opted not to do that. That gives me a window of time to continue running a little bit more, biking, and step it up more with weight training.
Then comes “Phase 5” to close out the year and I should be back on track.
But for now though, I want to run and work out without written goals in mind.
I’ll be back at it in October and set 3 realistic, but challenging goals to kick off Q4. And who knows, maybe I’ll be back blogging again before Oct. 1.
