June was all about focusing on our annual trip to the Outer Banks. I needed to disconnect and have days with no plans. That week away surely didn’t disappoint and helped me knock off all my goals in June:
✅ Less screen time
June 14-21: 10% drop from the previous week
June 22-28: 27% drop from the previous week
✅ Run my age
The day started with a sunrise and then 4.8 miles around Duck, North Carolina, which has become my favorite place ever to run.
✅ Enjoy my vacation
Duh!
Also in June …
While they weren’t official goals, my streak of 100 miles of biking and running continued. While I still biked a lot more than I ran, I did increase my month-over-month running miles for a second straight month. I’m at 640 combined miles for the year.
I also closed out the month (and first half of the year), by signing up for the Virginia 10 Miler in Lynchburg in September. (If you’re interested in signing up, use my referral link here!)
That completed my “phase 2” of my year-long plan I posted about at the end of May.
Lifting heavier weights continued as well, although my vacation was a small setback.
July goals
With entering the second half of the year not injured and not totally out of shape, I’m actually looking forward to some new challenges for the second half of the year.
6-mile long run
I don’t remember the last time I ran farther than something like 4 miles in the summer. It feels a little weird setting a distance goal knowing that the weather could play a factor in how I approach this month.
10-mile weekly bike rides
This is a goal I did one month last year and really liked this challenge. This is also about speed and focusing on getting faster with each 10-mile bike ride each week. My goal will be do this 4 times.
Publish my beach haikus
For an hour or so on the beach, I got this urge to write a few haikus. I don’t know if they’re good or not, but I want to post a couple of them here sometime in July. I really want to continue to have a non-running/fitness goal once a month, and this will push me outside of my comfort zone.
