Last time I took the time to write a blog entry, I was ready to do some great things in December. Or was that November? I don’t remember. And to sum up how the past few months have gone, I don’t even feel like going back to look to add a back-link to this post.
2021 has been ROUGH when it comes to running, getting in shape, and eating. As I look back over the past year since the pandemic begin, this is truly the “rock bottom” of my fitness and motivation. Sure, I am still running a little bit and capturing fun pics for Instagram …
… but the truth is, behind the scenes it’s just not fun.
Some more truths …
-
I haven’t weighed as much as I do now since I first lost weight in 2004. That’s scary. And frustrating. I’m still a bit off of what I started at with that journey, but I’ve got so much work to do.
-
I have trouble with eating. It’s a comfort thing. It’s fun to catch up on old shows at night with a snack and/or a beer or two. It’s the nice quiet time after the noise of kids, but I’ve got to get control over the unhealthy snacking.
-
My running miles combined in January and February didn’t even equal December. I’m not injured, but I am unmotivated.
-
I got a nice weight set for Christmas that I have used several times, but this morning was the first time I’ve picked them up since mid-February.
So what now …
-
I made a mental switch a week or so ago that March is a make or break month. Surely if I “fail” at getting some control back, it won’t truly “break”, but if I don’t make a plan, I’ll continue to just spiral out of control.
-
It’s time to start getting up earlier to workout. I’ve had a feeling of hibernating all weekend. This will include running more.
-
My wife and I are doing a cleanse to kick off the first week of March. I want that to be a jumpstart to better decisions for the rest of the month (and beyond).
-
The Blue Ridge Marathon is still on, for now. I’ve already downgraded to the half. I’m determined that no matter what I will still do that event if it remains in person.
-
Lastly, I want and need to document my progress more. I don’t know if it will come here in blog form, but I have started utilizing my notes on my phone more to get organized with this journey.
