At some point this month, my blog turns 12. It’s gone through a handful of name changes – mostly as “Running Because I Can” that I dropped a couple of years ago – as well as various waves of content.
At some point early I thought I could get into writing some evergreen content, but what I discovered is that I enjoy writing whatever is on my mind, whenever it is on my mind.
These days, though, with three kids and a work schedule that gets me up early, I write when I’m not ready to go to bed by 9 p.m. and when my brain will function well enough to type for 10-15 minutes.
That all leads me to the posts I used to enjoy the most — the numbered posts with bullets or numbered lists or sub-headlines (like this one) of a wide variety of things on my mind.
So here you go, for what I believe is my 1,261st blog post …
LOOK UP
These past few months have been all about appreciating things around me much more. Like the sky, and not just sunrises …
THE WEATHER
It’s hot. It’s cold. It rains. Now I’m weather-stalking the Blue Ridge Marathon forecast.
Weather stalking for @BRM26pt2. Looks perfect. For now. #RunChat #RunBlueRidge pic.twitter.com/Ma0NzLDCVM

THOSE LONG RUNS … I wish I had another month of training just to get in a few more long runs. But what’s done is done, right?
WHAT’S NEXT?
Yes, I’m living in the moment. I don’t know how I’m going to feel crossing the finish line of a marathon, especially the Blue Ridge Marathon. But I can’t help think about doing another marathon this fall. Or not. Who knows.
NO BEER FOR ME
Since the beginning of the year, I’ve had only a few beers. I just don’t like it anymore, nor do I feel like “grabbing a beer” somewhere. That doesn’t mean, though, I won’t drink some next weekend to celebrate, but after this first training cycle of not having a few drinks a week, I’m not going to revert to what I used to do.
MISSING SHAMROCK
Two years in a row of now Shamrock, and I finally missed it. (Maybe this should’ve been part of “What’s Next,” but I’m not feeling like copying/pasting this…)
BLUE RIDGE BLING
Lastly, these race medals for next weekend look AMAZING.
