It’s been a long time since I actually went out of my way to spectate at a race. Aside from being injured 5 years ago and going to a local 5K, I can’t remember actually going to a race to show my support and cheer on runners.
This past Saturday my son and I went to Mile 7 of the Richmond Marathon to watch and I quickly realized that I need to spectate more often.
It was an awesome experience to watch the elites go by at a blistering pace, then each pace group gradually go by … each one seeming more excited to be there. Or was it the crowd getting more excited as time passed?
I’m now two years removed from doing any of the Richmond Marathon weekend races, with the last being with my sister as I helped her run sub 2 hours in the half. I keep thinking that I want to do the Richmond Marathon again — in a 4th attempt, it has to go right … right?
Time will tell …
