Disclaimer: Race 13.1 is providing me a race entry for the 10K at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday. No other compensation has been provided. All thoughts on my own.
As I try to figure out what running goals I want to set for the rest of this year, an opportunity came up in the past couple of weeks to get introduced to Race 13.1 and join their first-time event in Richmond this weekend. It’s the perfect opportunity for me to race and see where I am physically for a distance that I usually can’t stand.
By the time mid-summer rolls around, I want to be able to say I’m in great “race shape” and can have some better goals, but this race is simply a test. My best guess is that this will fall somewhere in the middle of all the 10Ks I’ve ever done — maybe a little better than 50 minutes, but nowhere near 45 — but I’m not really going to focus on that.
My plan is to push myself, run hard, see what my time is and then make plans to get better.
