With 2 and a half months left in the year, there is a large part of me that wants it to be over and set my 2015 running goals. But I can’t just throw away this year. Not yet.
I have a little less than 10 weeks until the Surf-n-Santa 5 Miler in Virginia Beach. I can run 5 miles no problem. But how fast can I run those miles? Can I set a PR that leaves me content for 2014?
Over the next couple of months, I’ll run the Wicked 10K for some fun, but my “A” race will be on a distance that has usually carried no importance to me. It’s time to get some purpose back to my runs.
That leads me to taking a quick look at my overall goals for the year. I haven’t done a check-up on them since in a long time, and I need to make sure I do before it’s too late.
Finish what I start.
I started the year well. Q3 was pretty awful. Q4 isn’t starting great. But I can turn things around in the final stretch of the year strong. I’ll finish what I started and hit 2015 in a better place than I did this year. That’s the whole point of this goal.
Logging mileage on paper.
I can’t begin to explain how liberating it is to do this. I love being social on social media, but I just don’t feel a need to broadcast every single run. I can’t see myself going back to another site to log my miles again.
Run 1,000 miles.
Mileage wise, this year hasn’t been bad. Getting to 1,000 miles is going to be a stretch. I have to analyze this at the end of the month to see if it makes any sense. If not, I’ll move along and try again next year.
