January was one of those months that it was easy to get distracted and just forget about doing something different this year. Snow/ice/cold, working weird hours, and avoiding whatever illnesses are going around made for a weird month.
But as promised, I’m checking in with the three goals I set for the month and am ready for three more things for February.
JANUARY’S GOALS
✅ Lose 5 pounds
I actually lost a little more than that. I’m not sure how much of that came from overindulging so much in December that made it seem a little easier, but I did focus on eating a little bit better and adding in some additional workouts with weights. It’s progress for sure though.
✅ Run 60 miles
I was going to EASILY do this until the snow and ice storm at the end of the month. The final stretch of this month was basically just gliding on ice and tiptoeing around to hit my goal, but I did it. I replaced two or three runs with a bike workout instead, so I’m feeling pretty good about how this year has started.
🤷 Basement decluttering
I said at the beginning of this month that I wasn’t sure how to define success with this project. There’s no end in sight with decluttering, but I think we had a good start to organizing (or really reorganizing) things. I decided to make sure to spend about 90 minutes a week dedicated to working on the basement, so I’m satisfied with that start.
FEBRUARY’S GOALS
Run/bike 120 miles
My highest total combined miles in a month in the past two years has been 106 miles miles, which I hit twice. I had 104 combined miles in January. I don’t know what I’m doing here with this goal, but it 120 miles sounds good.
Work on those abs
I don’t like to put “streak” as a goal, but my plan is to do sit-ups or plank or something that engages my core every day in February.
Listen to new music
I want to listen to 4 albums from new-to-me (or only vaguely-familiar-to-me) artists or bands. Sure this sounds easy, but I just wanted to do something different that doesn’t mentally drain me. I’m a big believer in music soothing the soul, and I want to explore things I’m not familiar with.
