Power of 3: January check-up; February preview

My favorite scene from January, when it was only in the teens after a snowstorm.

I’ve become very used to major temperature swings and sinus issues in January, but in the past few years I’ve let those issues majorly impact my running.

This year, however, I made sure they were only a minor inconvenience in hitting my goals.

The “Power of 3” goals, both with running and at home, wasn’t easy this month, but having those goals written down kept me focus during times I really wanted to quit.

Here’s a look at how it all went down:

  1. Run 90 miles. I fell 5.7 miles short of this goal, but you won’t hear any complaining from me. Snow one weekend followed by getting sick the next cut into several runs, so to end with more than 84 miles is a huge success. Those miles also beat out any month from 2016.
  2. 25 consecutive push-ups. Done!
  3. Lift weights 6 times. Done! But very poorly. I could have, and should have, done more than did, but I didn’t set up a strict enough goal. That said, what I did this month was much more than most of last year and will help me move forward to February.

And speaking of February, I want to once again set a mileage goal while also focusing on cross training and eating better.

Here’s a look at what I have:

  1. Run 100 miles
  2. Do a 2-minute plank
  3. Finish my salad goal,

At home, my family and I mostly completely our January goals as well. As I move forward with 2017, I’ll likely keep those things more private.
