First run back …
On Friday I went for my first run in more than three weeks. It was, as prescribed, a short run on a flat, softer surface in the park right next to my house.
In that short run, I thought about how unnatural it felt. I realized I had paid no attention to my running form for months, and everything felt sloppy. I felt a bit winded, but admittedly not as much as I thought I would. I felt like I was 10 pounds heavier than the last run, but it’s probably only a few pounds.
But despite so many things that felt wrong, I felt satisfied with it. Nothing hurt during the run. Focusing on my form was something I NEED to do anyway. And I need to lose 10 pounds (more like 15 or so now), so running will only help, especially after being away from it for 3 weeks.
A couple of hours or so later, though, I had pain in my calf where I did when I stopped. It was so maddening. I took off all that time, had a couple of treatments, did my rehab and then this? It all felt like a big waste.
A couple of days later, though, there doesn’t seem to be any major issues and I’m wondering if I should run again to see what happens. Or do I take a few more days or another week off?
I want a starting over plan and right now I don’t have one. It’s the first time I’ve been frustrated in this process and also the first time I really regret not getting things looked at a few months ago and being more proactive.
Despite all these thoughts, I do know this will end … I’ve got to dig deep and find some patience.
