Three Things Thursday

Being in this in between state of feeling like not doing anything, taking a break from the word “training” and nursing a knee a bit, I’m finding a variety of things on my mind right now. So, here’s my first “Three Things Thursday” post, which is great for moments like this.
1. Speaking of my knee, I realized today that in my great moments of being healthy, I let my form slip a bit. I think I got too comfortable, but today I set myself straight by concentrating on my foot strikes.

I feel like this is a constant work in progress, but since I’ve been injury free for a while now, I know that what I’m doing is working. I just can’t let it slip again.

2. Barring any kind of setback, I’m going to hit my high school’s track this weekend. I’m not sure what I’ll do; my initial thoughts are a few 800 repeats at my 1:39 half marathon pace. Since I haven’t been on the track in 5 years, anything I do will be a learning experience.

3. My 2-3 lunch runs per week will pretty much be coming to an end next week since our workout program’s rewards are drastically changing. Simply put, it’s not nearly worth it as much to workout there beyond a couple of walks a day, which is pretty sad considering I work for a health care company. It’s well known that I don’t talk about work on here much, but I’ll miss those mid-day runs around Roanoke.

That said, my original plan from a year ago to becoming a morning runner is back in full force. I’ve had several morning runs in the past couple of months without major problems, and I’ve been mentally preparing for this for a couple of months now. Getting up a half hour or so earlier will not be a problem.

Hmm. I could never do a mid-day run at work because of the hassle and time of showering afterwards–and not showering is not an option for me!

Once you get in the habit, morning running really is great. Done and off your plate for the day.
Yes–keep working on the form. Making the transition to forefoot striking took some pain and lots of time for me, but it was the best move I've made in 15 years of running.

I'm curious – what are the main things you did to change. I feel like I've made a lot of progress, but I feel like I slip so easily. I need to film myself too to see exactly what's going on.

slightly off topic to this post, I clicked to read it from my phone last night & it didn't show all the content. What I read didn't really flow, but reading it from the computer makes a lot more sense.
Have fun on the track! Make sure you have a good playlist, that really helps me.

My friend works at a health insurance company that does workout rewards, and she once explained to me the point system for doing a 5k, 10k, 1/2 marathon, full marathon, and I thought it was bogus. You didn't get a lot of points for a full marathon, but I guess that makes sense, a full one leads to more injuries & doctor visits & stuff.

The coding in the photo messed up the post somehow. Thanks for the heads up. As for a playlist on the track, that will never happen. The track and a race are two places I don't listen to music. I have to be focused on hitting my marks with time and form. And the rewards that we have are pretty much what we earn on site. They took away one of the cooler things we can earn, so it's not worth it. I'll do what I can to earn an extra day off, and that's it.

Enjoy the track! I just hit our local track yesterday and love those workouts.
On the midfoot strike – I did have someone film me and it helped to really see what was going on – definitely worth trying.

Have fun with the track workout! Perhaps I should try one of those one of these days! Ha What have you been doing mentally to prepare yourself for the morning runs?

Being completely honest here, I've just spent a lot of time thinking about it.

Thanks for the feedback! I like to take everything I can into consideration, so it's great to hear what has worked for others.
