Christmas Classic coffee mug
After Saturday’s Peaks of Otter Christmas Classic, I didn’t hang out for long. After being out in the cold for a while, my son was ready to go home. I ended up missing some exciting news though — an age group award.

Christmas Classic awardsMy official time of 22:53 put me 3rd in my age group, which was really surprising considering the top 3 in my age group last year had finishes of 20 minutes or better. So I’d like to thank all the REALLY fast guys 30-34 for staying home Saturday.

My award was the coffee cup above; the inset photo is me and my son showing off our awards — he ended up getting a medal for his race.

I ended up being 60th out of 369 finishers, the largest Christmas Classic ever. My official time puts me at 1:41 better than my previous time from two years ago when I was 100th out of 322.

    Nicely done and great looking cup! I noticed… if we would have been racing together, you would have beaten me by a mere 4 seconds! Maybe we'll get a chance to race together someday!

      I was all alone at the end – the person in front of me was 6 secondsahead; the person behind was 17 seconds behind. The long gradualuphill finish – a little more than a quarter mile – really separatedeveryone. Hope we can do the same race sometime – my in-laws are innortheast Ohio (Cortland to be specific, just north of Youngstown), soI'm due for a big race there sometime.

    Congratulations! That sounds like a great Christmas time race…are you planning on doing the Jingle Bell 5k in Roanoke this weekend?

    Trying to read that cup makes me feel drunk, but congratulations on the age group placing! That's a life-long goal for me, I'm thinking when I turn 50 or 60 I'm good.
