Ups & downs of October

This month is ending horribly as knee problems having plagued me all weekend. This is coming off two pretty good runs earlier this week. It’s left me mad, sad, confused, frustrated … nine and half months of great running and now this?
I can’t hang my head too low. This month is the fourth straight month of 100-plus miles in a month and I’m now less than 50 miles from 1,000 miles for the year — those are big things and I’m thrilled at those numbers. But …

… with less than two weeks to go to the marathon, I’ve got to figure something out. Tape that seemed to work just fine mid-week didn’t work this weekend. I even took my first two-day break in several weeks. I’ve iced; I’ve stretched; I’ve walked extra at the beginning to get myself warmed up better.

All is not lost with the marathon. I can rest more; I can get another wrap or brace to try out; I can manage this.

I know how you feel.. just 2 weeks before my 1st half my doc told me I couldn't run.. I needed to rest.. I promised him I would rest AFTER the half.. and I took 2 mos off.. Wishing you a speedy solution to allow you to run your marathon and lots of TLC and a speedy recovery to top your 1000 mile year goal..

I think it's very cool that you are finding the positive things. And like you said, all is not lost with the marathon. Keep thinking positive thoughts, and good luck with your knee.

Would you feel comfortable taking this entire week off of running before the marathon? I gave myself that 4 day break & things seem to be ok for my pain..
I agree with Rob though, it's great that you're keeping positive about it, I know I'd be flipping out.

At this point, running really isn't going to help me prepare for the marathon, but I have to run every other day or every couple of days to see if I can do something to lessen the pain. I'm probably taking today and tomorrow off and then see how it goes Wednesday.

You definitely can. Glad you're trying to keep a positive attitude. Rest a bit as you're planning and I think you'll be good to go. 🙂

I know the feeling. After months of feeling good, my left knee started acting up about two weeks before MCM. Not a new pain — one that comes and goes — and it usually doesn't bother me too much to run with, fortunately. I just kept stretching, icing, and hoping for the best.

Oddly enough, the OTHER knee started to tighten up at mile 22 of the marathon, but otherwise no trouble!

I hope it gets better so you can still run!
